Oktoberfest 09 (Wednesday 21st October – Week 11)

The most talked about social event on the University calendar for the last ten years has been without a doubt Oktoberfest. The now legendary Uni of Ballarat Oktoberfest has become an institution to many and this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better than the rest.

In 2009 the event moves to the very unique setting of the Ballarat Showgrounds (Cnr Creswick Road & Howitt St). The move brings with it some exciting new features including the largest outdoor beer garden ever assembled in Ballarat and huge feature marquees from both Red Bull, Jagermeister and Extra Dry.

Kicking off the day as early as 2pm the event will again feature a free Genuine German Beer Stein (sponsored by Extra Dry) for the first 500 through the door. There will be Real World Beer Wenches to tend to your every need, as well as German and Bavarian beer tastings throughout the day. The all-you-can-eat Free German/Aussie BBQ buffet including the famous bratsworth sausage will assure you make it into the evening session. The day will also feature a traditional stein holding competition with the winner to go into Ballarat University folk law history for ever.

In addition to the many authentic Oktoberfest traditions there will also be a multitude of entertainment to keep the punters amused throughout the day. A live outdoor band stage will feature 3 live bands starting as early as 2:30 in the afternoon and going right through to the wee hours of the night. There will be 5 live DJ’s cranking out the tunes on the inside feature stage with heaps of giveaways to keep things interesting.> >

Something else to keep an eye out for this year will be the promotional ‘Oktoberfest Lucky Dip’ table running outside the Café on Wed 14th, Mon 19th & Tue 20th of Oct. In preparation for the big day you are able to win FREE Steins, FREE Stein refills, Oktoberfest Merchandise plus much more…everyone’s a winner at this fine table.

Buses will also be running from the University Flag Pole out to the Showgrounds at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30, 5:30 & 6:30 with more buses taking people into town at the end of the night.
